About Laser Tattoo Removal

Many people regret the decisions they have made when it comes to tattoos.

This may be due to changes in taste, lifestyle or desire.  Also, as the skin changes with age and loses its youthfullness, tattoos may become unsightly.

 

 

Previous methods of tattoo removal

Previous methods of tattoo removal include dermabrasion (removing layers of skin), Cyrosurgery (freezing the tattoo and peeling it off, sections at a time) or Excision (cutting out the tattoo, sections at a time).  These methods are extremely severe and can result in significant scarring.

Colour tattoos

All colours of tattoos can be removed with our laser machine, though some colours are easier to remove than others.  Black/blue coloured ink is the easiest to remove while other colours, such as green, will require more treatments. Different frequencies must be used for different colours of ink.   

 

 
The treatment process
 
Tattoo removal treatments must be 6 weeks apart to ensure that the skin is completely healed in between treatments.  If treatments are performed before the skin is properly healed,  there may be a chance of scarring.
Generally, 4-6 treatments will be required to entirely remove a tattoo.  This is dependant on the colours of the tattoo, the depth of the tattoo and the type of inks/pigment used.
One of our experienced technicians will advise you on consultation and customise a treatment program specific to your individual needs.
For those with very sensitive skin, a topical anaesthetic may be used along with cooling ice packs to reduce discomfort and swelling.
We can completely remove a tattoo leaving clean skin, fade a tattoo to allow for it to be easily covered with a new tattoo, or partially remove a tattoo.
                                      
                 
 
 

 

The Q-Switched Laser Machine

We have the latest Q-Switched ND YAG Laser technology from Italy.  The Q-switched laser machine is:

  • the safest and most effective way of removing a tattoo
  • requires fewer treatments than other laser machines
  • has minimal chance of scarring

The Q-Switched Laser offers significant advantages over previous methods of tattoo removal such as Salabrasion, acid solutions or incision.

 

How the laser works

The Q-Switched ND YAG works on the principle of selective thermolysis, delivering light quickly and at a very high energy level.  This energy exposure selectively destroys the foreign pigment contained in the tattoo, breaking it into small particles which are then removed by the body’s immune system.

The skin is transparent to the laser therefore it is not damaged.  The laser is attracted to the colour in the tattoo ink.

Side effects of laser tattoo removal

After the tattoo removal treatment you may experience some swelling, redness, scabbing and/or blistering.  This is very normal and will subside withing 7-10 days.  As new layers of skin form, the ink is pushed towards the surface, eventually forming a scabbing, then disappearing.  You will then be left with fresh new skin.

How does the tattoo removal system work?

We offer the latest technology Q Switch ND Yag Laser Tattoo Removal device which can be used to partially or completely remove a tattoo. Lasers work by targeting the ink in the tattoo. Because each tattoo is unique, removal techniques must be tailored to suit each individual case. Darker pigments will be much easier to remove and generally require less treatments than lighter pigments.

Is laser treatment safe?

Pulses of highly concentrated light pass harmlessly through the top layers of the skin to be selectively absorbed by the tattoo pigment and break the ink into tiny fragments, which are then cleared away by your own immune system.

 

How many treatments will i require for tattoo removal?

The more treatments you have, the more the laser can penetrate to destroy the ink. Depending on your tattoo, you may need anywhere from one to ten sessions spaced approximately six weeks apart.

What is the success rate of tattoo removal?

Although there is a large success rate with tattoo removal, the success of the removal of each individual tattoo depends on several factors including whether your tattoo was performed as a traditional or homemade tattoo, the density of the tattoo, which pigments/ink were used in the process, and the depth of the tattoo. Your therapist will advise you on consultation and customise a treatment program specific for your individual needs.
